Shannon Sheu, MD

MD: Yale University
RESIDENCY (Dermatology): Stanford University
BOARD-CERTIFIED: The American Board of Dermatology

Born and raised in the Hawaiian Islands, Dr. Sheu trained on the mainland and then returned home to Honolulu where she enjoys treating patients of several generations – from the youngest keiki to the revered kupunas.

“The ability to see and treat patients of all ages is one of the most fulfilling aspects of the specialty of dermatology,” she says.

Living in a part of the world where surfing, fishing and other outdoor activities reign supreme, Dr. Sheu sees firsthand the damaging effects of UV-rays. She is a strong advocate of skin protection, and is committed to educating her patients – and others – on the importance of avoiding the midday sun, using sunscreen regularly, and wearing protective clothing when possible.

Because much of Hawaii’s population lives on neighbor islands with very limited access to specialty health care, she believes DirectDerm provides a much-needed service in the region.

“The high cost of transportation could prevent some patients from traveling to Honolulu to see a skin specialist. But through DirectDerm, I can quickly evaluate and treat patients on other islands who otherwise might never have access to a diagnosis or specialty care.”
